About the position

The Emission Certification & Compliance Engineer at BMW Group plays a crucial role in ensuring that vehicles meet regulatory standards for emissions and fuel economy. This position involves obtaining official vehicle type approval or certification in alignment with market launch timelines, advising development departments on US regulatory requirements, and representing BMW in technical agency and government meetings. The engineer will also manage compliance testing and reporting, ensuring that all necessary steps are taken with regulatory agencies to facilitate the introduction of innovative vehicles into the market.

Responsibilities

  • Support obtaining and assuring official vehicle type approval or certification for market launch.
  • Manage compliance with market-specific rules and regulations.
  • Provide advice to development departments regarding US regulatory requirements.
  • Guide different departments to find appropriate solutions for compliance topics.
  • Participate in technical agency and industry meetings, representing BMW.
  • Prepare and distribute documents within the company and for meetings.
  • Present BMW's position in technical agency and government meetings to influence outcomes.
  • Support compliance testing and reporting as per US agency schedules.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies to advocate for favorable outcomes for BMW.
  • Manage specific tasks for certification and compliance, including Confirmatory Testing and GHG reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical) or Master's degree.
  • 3-5 years of experience in vehicle development or project management (for Bachelor's) or 1-3 years (for Master's).
  • 3-5 years of recent experience in Emissions and Fuel Economy Certification and Compliance in the automobile industry (for Bachelor's) or 1-3 years (for Master's).
  • 3-5 years of experience dealing directly with governmental agencies (EPA, CARB, NHTSA) or similar (for Bachelor's) or 1-3 years (for Master's).
