About the position

The Emissions Engineer for Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) at TC Energy is responsible for leading and coordinating leak detection and repair activities across US natural gas facilities. This role involves developing and implementing comprehensive leak detection programs, ensuring compliance with emissions regulations, and providing technical support to field personnel. The engineer will analyze emissions data, engage with stakeholders, and support engineering design initiatives aimed at reducing methane emissions, contributing to TC Energy's commitment to cleaner energy solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate leak detection and repair activities across US natural gas facilities.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive leak detection programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Analyze and interpret leak detection data to identify trends and areas needing improvement.
  • Collaborate with field operations teams to plan and execute timely repairs of detected leaks.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and documentation related to all leak detection and repair activities.
  • Provide training and technical support to field personnel on leak detection technologies and methodologies.
  • Support engineering design for initiatives aimed at reducing methane emissions.
  • Understand US emissions regulations and support developing innovative and cost-effective strategies to comply.
  • Analyze emissions data and coordinate stakeholders to collect, digitize, and display the data to fulfill record-keeping requirements, enhance accuracy, and drive insights for decision-making.
  • Engage with a broad group of stakeholders to identify data needs and support the enhancements to emissions information and development of the US Gas Data Lake.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (or equivalent). A Professional Engineering license is considered an asset.
  • 5 years of related experience.
  • Experience in the development and management of engineering standards, specifications and procedures.
  • Technical experience in engineering design, design oversight and quality assurance.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to partner and work with company stakeholders across North America.
  • Pragmatic with strong decision-making skills and engineering judgment.
  • Experience in reading and understanding various engineering/design drawings (P&ID's, Isometrics, Alignment sheets, etc.)

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with and familiarity with federal or state emissions regulations.
  • Knowledge of fugitive and vented emissions sources and quantification methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership across multiple groups without direct control.
  • Solid understanding of project management methodologies.
  • Strong technical and project documentation, reporting, and logistics skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Power Platform, particularly Power Apps and/or Power BI.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply new concepts, tools, and processes, with a continuous improvement and change management mindset.
