About the position

The Employee Benefits Account Manager for Large Group is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, ensuring they receive exceptional service and support in their Health and Life insurance needs. This role involves collaborating with brokers, managing a book of clients, and providing guidance on insurance programs, proposals, and presentations. The Account Manager will also handle renewals, client education, and compliance with industry regulations while mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Retention of existing clients and assistance with the onboarding of new clients.
  • Provide exceptional service to clients while aligning services with their strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with agents to educate clients on their insurance programs and ensure comprehensive coverage.
  • Recommend products and services to bridge gaps in coverage.
  • Process renewals and work closely with agents to remarket if necessary.
  • Attend weekly Benefits staff meetings for team building and strategy development.
  • Attend scheduled meetings with carriers to stay updated on underwriting and coverage changes.
  • Respond promptly to client and carrier requests via email, phone, and mail.
  • Resolve all billing and billing questions.
  • Assist clients not directly assigned to you when necessary.
  • Coordinate and conduct client presentations, including open enrollment meetings and benefit fairs.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry legislative and compliance issues, including ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and FMLA.
  • Review contracts and amendments for accuracy and coordinate corrections with carriers/vendors.
  • Provide claims, eligibility, billing, and plan administration advocacy and resolution.
  • Act as a mentor for Associate Account Managers on client objectives.
  • Maintain client information to meet service standards and stay updated on new insurance developments.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience in an insurance-related industry, preferably with Large Group (50+).
  • Knowledge in medical, dental, disability, group life, and individual insurance, including alternate funding arrangements.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with a positive attitude.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong listening, discernment, and prioritization skills with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and self-manage workload.
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current Oregon Health and Life license is required.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Applied Epic, Wired Enroll, EASE, and/or Employee Navigator.
