About the position

The Employee & Labor Relations Analyst at the University of California Riverside is a pivotal role that reports directly to the Director of Employee and Labor Relations. This position is designed for a technical leader who will provide expert guidance across all levels of the organization, leveraging specialized knowledge in employee and labor relations to address a wide array of questions, concerns, and grievances from a large and complex employee base. The analyst will be responsible for delivering advanced professional advice and counsel to management on various employee and labor relations issues, as well as spearheading employee engagement initiatives that foster a high-performance workplace culture. In this role, the analyst will engage in significant employee relations programs and objectives, advising supervisors on performance management, corrective actions, and the conduct of investigations related to complaints and grievances. The position requires a high degree of autonomy, with the analyst expected to work independently on assignments while also potentially leading and guiding other employee relations professionals. The scope of work is diverse and complex, necessitating a thorough analysis of data and situations that have broad implications for the organization. The position is remote with mandatory in-office days, and the salary range for this role is competitive, reflecting the level of expertise and experience required. The analyst will also be expected to comply with all applicable university policies and collective bargaining agreements, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local government directives that may impose additional requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and counsel to management on employee and labor relations issues.
  • Resolve questions, concerns, and grievances for a large group of employees.
  • Advise supervisors on performance management and corrective actions.
  • Conduct investigations and manage complaints and grievances.
  • Work autonomously on assignments and lead other employee relations professionals as needed.
  • Develop, interpret, implement, and administer organization-wide human resources policies and processes.
  • Engage in employee engagement efforts to support a high-performance workplace.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
  • 6 - 10 years of related experience in employee and labor relations.
  • Significant experience conducting complex workplace investigations.
  • Advanced knowledge of organization policies and procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Advanced organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • JD or Master's degree in a related area.
  • Professional experience in higher education or public sector employee relations.
  • Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification.
  • Labor Relations Academy Masters Certification (CLRM).
  • Professional in Human Resources Certification (PHR).
