About the position

The Employee & Labor Relations Business Partner at Encore Boston Harbor plays a crucial role in ensuring a positive work environment that complies with all employment laws and regulations. This position focuses on maintaining productive relationships with union partners, handling grievances, and supporting management in employee relations matters while ensuring an excellent experience for both guests and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Administers policies and procedures to enhance employee relations and improve management-hourly team member relationships.
  • Provides guidance and counsel to management on human resources policies and procedures, addressing attendance, seniority, work performance, and discipline.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws throughout the property.
  • Guides team members on labor and employee relations issues.
  • Investigates allegations of discrimination, sexual harassment, or questionable behavior among team members.
  • Assists legal counsel in preparing legal defenses.
  • Conducts training for management on collective bargaining agreements, applicable laws, and company policies.
  • Stays informed of developments in labor relations, particularly in the Boston market.
  • Manages internal and external guest relations with patience and diplomacy.
  • Interacts with union representatives to resolve grievances and concerns.
  • Maintains documentation in compliance with regulations and company policy, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitors departmental activities to enforce internal policies and laws.
  • Facilitates communication through regular meetings with team members and other departments.
  • Manages multiple priorities and meets deadlines in high-pressure situations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible Labor & Employee Relations experience.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in planning and project management.
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to promote positive and ethical relations with team members and contractors.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with tact and diplomacy.
  • Knowledge of union and non-union working environments preferred.
  • Fluency in English; second language is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the hospitality or entertainment industry.
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts employment laws and regulations.
