About The Position

The Employee & Labor Relations Representative at King County Metro's Human Resources team serves as a trusted advisor on employee and labor relations activities. This Special Duty Assignment (SDA)/Term Limited Temporary (TLT) position is expected to last for one year, with a possibility of extension. The role involves advising on complex employee performance management, union contract interpretation, workplace investigations, and handling employee complaints, impacting high-level decision-making and policy-making within the department.

Requirements

• Experience in employee and labor relations, including knowledge of collective bargaining agreements.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders.
• Ability to conduct workplace investigations and draft comprehensive reports.
• Understanding of equity and social justice principles as they apply to employee relations.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working in a public sector or government environment.
• Familiarity with King County's policies and procedures.
• Certification in human resources or labor relations.

Responsibilities

• Consult on and facilitate the resolution of employee and labor relations issues with managers, supervisors, employees, and union representatives.
• Work collaboratively to resolve grievances at the lowest possible level within Transit Employee Services and other Metro Divisions.
• Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements through training and consultation with managers and unions.
• Consult with the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office as necessary.
• Conduct workplace investigations to determine the validity of complaints and grievances.
• Draft investigative reports and present findings and recommendations to decision-makers.
• Prepare written responses to the EEOC and other regulatory agencies regarding allegations of discrimination and harassment.
