About the position

The Employee Relations Consultant at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, plays a crucial role in supporting the Employee Relations functional area within the Office of Human Resources. This position focuses on providing guidance on employee concerns, performance management, and conducting investigations related to non-discriminatory complaints. The consultant will also be responsible for developing training programs related to employee relations and ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as employee relations subject matter expert, providing services in support of the ER team.
  • Conduct meetings with supervisors to provide guidance on employee performance concerns, performance improvement plans, and progressive discipline.
  • Conduct intake meetings with employees to address their concerns.
  • Conduct HR reviews and investigations related to alleged non-discriminatory violations of policy, law, or procedures.
  • Facilitate discussions between parties as an HR representative.
  • Conduct exit and stay interviews, monitoring data monthly to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist with conducting needs assessments and coordinating employee appeals and grievances.
  • Assist with employee satisfaction and engagement efforts, including preparing surveys, analyzing data, and developing action plans.
  • Develop courses and facilitate training on performance management and conflict management.
  • Support compliance-related initiatives, such as the annual performance management process and compliance training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, I-O Psychology, or a relevant field.
  • Minimum of four years of human resources experience.
  • Two years of experience performing employee relations functions, such as conducting workplace investigations and employee complaint intake meetings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of human resource practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in the area of employee relations.
  • Knowledge of workplace investigations, mediation, or facilitative discussions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in human resources, I-O Psychology, or a related field.
  • Training in mediation or facilitation.
