About the position

The Employee Relations Consultant III position is designed to support Employee Relations initiatives within the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (DAC). This role focuses on fostering a collaborative working environment across the south-central region of DAC, which includes both community supervision and institutional divisions. The consultant will engage in conflict management, provide HR policy interpretation, and facilitate effective communication among employees and management, ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate a productive working environment for employees, supervisors, and management.
  • Administer and communicate HR policies related to employee relations, including disciplinary actions and grievances.
  • Conduct workplace investigations of sensitive and confidential nature.
  • Provide guidance on progressive disciplinary actions and performance feedback discussions.
  • Consult with employees and management on complex employee relations matters.
  • Evaluate and analyze employee relations issues and make informed decisions.
  • Serve as a stand-by Consultant for internal mediations in the grievance process.
  • Respond to inquiries related to HR policies and employee relations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field and 4 years of experience, or a high school diploma with 6 years of progressive HR experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal HR-related policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Experience providing HR consultation to employees and management on HR policies and procedures.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and conflict resolution.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in mediation and conflict resolution training.
  • Experience developing and conducting training programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and HR Information Systems.
