About the position

The City of Raleigh, Human Resources Department, is seeking an Employee Relations Consultant to join our team. As a member of the HR team, the Employee Relations Consultant will oversee workplace accommodations and ADA compliance for employees, as well as assist with workplace investigations. In this position, you will manage leave of absence issues, address accommodation requests and act as liaison among employees, stakeholders, and HR Business Partners.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and other disability-related laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement procedures, and training programs to remove barriers.
  • Respond to and resolve complaints related to disability discrimination.
  • Advise and provide guidance to employees, supervisors, managers, etc. on disability-related matters.
  • Handle the interactive process for accommodation requests.
  • Stay up to date on ADA and disability-related legal developments and best practices.
  • Assist with conducting employment investigations and other employee relations processes.
  • Partner internally with City Attorney's Office, Internal Audit, and other internal partners as appropriate to achieve the above responsibilities.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices, reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Receive and review requests and inquiries; advise and provide information to management, staff and other stakeholders regarding human resource policies, procedures, and practices; conduct interviews and surveys to gather information; interpret and explain policies; and provide program and procedure recommendations to address needs and resolve issues.
  • Monitor and maintain system data, files, records, and reporting; monitor and implement information tracking systems.
  • Review procedures and workflow and provide recommendations for process or program improvements; identify resource needs; evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, business or public administration or directly related field.
  • Two years of professional experience in employee relations.

Nice-to-haves

  • PHR /SPHR / SHRM-SCP or IPMA-SCP certification.
  • Four years of employee relations experience and experience with the interactive process.
