About the position

The Employee Relations Consultant at Alameda Health System plays a crucial role in partnering with organizational leadership to facilitate human resources programs and services that align with the organization's strategic objectives. This position acts as a management representative in labor relations, engaging with union representatives and handling grievances, disciplinary actions, and negotiations. The consultant is responsible for supporting management teams in achieving employee satisfaction and performance goals while ensuring compliance with labor laws and best practices in employee relations.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as AHS management representative in contacts with union representatives and/or departments on meet and confer processes, grievances, disciplinary actions, and other labor relations activities.
  • Participates in negotiations at all levels and assists in the preparation of the Memoranda of Understanding, including developing contract language and making necessary presentations.
  • Functions as the HR Partner to management teams of assigned client groups, supporting them in achieving people-related objectives.
  • Assists with research pertaining to potential or stated employee organization demands, including cost or budget impact information.
  • Provides MOU training to Leadership, including changes to MOU after negotiations.
  • Consults with and provides advice to departmental management and supervisors on employer-employee relations and MOU matters.
  • Keeps abreast of labor/employee relations laws, court decisions, and trends affecting both private and public sectors.
  • Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances.
  • Partners with management teams to support people-related objectives for employee performance and satisfaction.
  • Supports leadership in coaching/counseling and performance issues, including reduction in force.
  • Identifies trends across business groups and recommends appropriate actions, acting as a conduit for client group needs and HR programs.
  • Conducts investigations into claims of sexual harassment, bullying, and discrimination.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Four years of experience in HR/Employee Labor Relations.
