About the position

The Employee Relations/Cost Accountant position is a full-time role that supports the farming team by managing employee relations, performance management, safety, HR compliance, and cost accounting. This versatile role is essential in fostering a supportive workplace culture that aligns with company values and enhances team performance. The position involves overseeing the development of people and processes to ensure comprehensive support for the Farming Department, working under the direction of management and owners.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all aspects of HR are accounted for and correctly managed from employee benefits, compensation, payroll, personnel files, and safety & training records.
  • Develop, deliver, and enforce HR company policies and procedures, serving as the primary contact for employee inquiries.
  • Communicate employee benefit options and manage Open Enrollment effectively, ensuring deadlines are met and records are accurate.
  • Collaborate with management on annual employee reviews and evaluations, as well as onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Handle employee complaints and concerns with discretion and confidentiality, working with management to reach appropriate resolutions.
  • Coordinate and maintain records for the Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy to ensure employee safety.
  • Act as a liaison between employees in company housing and management/maintenance staff regarding housing issues.
  • Support the execution of the H-2A visa process, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Provide accounting support for the preparation of monthly and year-end reports, collaborating with the CFO and CPA for tax filings.
  • Develop and maintain accounting processes and templates for reporting company performance to management and owners.
  • Collaborate with the CFO in preparing annual financial budgets and provide regular reviews addressing variances and budget statuses.
  • Organize, analyze, and track cost & labor by vineyard to increase efficiency and performance.

Requirements

  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
  • Minimum 3 years related experience or equivalent combination of work experience and education.
  • Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Ag Business preferred.
  • Experience with MS Excel/Word/PowerPoint at an intermediate level.
  • Vineyard or Ag experience is a plus.
  • QuickBooks experience is a plus.
  • Highly organized with an eye for detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and flexibly in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, self-starter with strong personal leadership skills, including problem-solving and analytical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in vineyard or agricultural settings.
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks.
