About the position

The Employee Relations role at a top bank is designed for a junior to midlevel employment law associate with expertise in harassment and discrimination investigations. This position serves as a partner to the HR Business Partner function and internal counsel, focusing on employee relations matters. The individual will leverage their knowledge of U.S. HR policies, employment law, and the bank's operations to provide tailored solutions for high-risk employment issues, acting as a subject matter expert for all U.S. Employee Relations needs.

Responsibilities

  • Consults with HR Business Partners and the Legal Department on employee relations issues.
  • Conducts and facilitates complex, sensitive, and time-critical employee relations investigations.
  • Documents investigative paths, recommendations, and resolutions clearly and concisely.
  • Serves as an objective third party in reviewing terminations and disciplinary actions.
  • Engages relevant stakeholders and provides trusted advice and recommends remedial measures as appropriate.
  • Works closely with cross-functional HR partners and business partners such as IT security, risk, compliance, audit, and legal.
  • Ensures fair and consistent employment practices are in place and being followed.
  • Designs, delivers, and executes large-scale projects or initiatives related to HR tools and training.
  • Conducts research and benchmarking related to projects and process improvements.
  • Creates and tracks data to identify trends and recommends remedial actions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of HR and employment law/legal experience.
  • Specialized employee relations and employment law experience in the financial services industry.
  • Bachelor's and JD degree required.
  • Ideal candidate is a non-practicing employment attorney.
  • Excellent strategic and tactical investigation skills.
  • High influencing, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience working in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Advanced relationship management skills.
  • Solutions driven and customer service oriented.
  • Understanding of financial services business model.
