About the position

The Employee Relations Manager at Sun Coast Resources, Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting the Director of Human Resources by managing the Employee Relations function. This position is pivotal in addressing and resolving various employee-related issues that arise throughout the employment lifecycle. The Employee Relations Manager will be responsible for conducting thorough investigations into employee complaints, including those related to harassment, discrimination, and unfair treatment. This role requires the application of independent judgment and best practices to recommend resolutions that align with company policies and legal requirements. The manager will also be tasked with writing detailed investigation summaries and reports for the HR Director's review. In addition to handling complaints, the Employee Relations Manager will work closely with management on performance-related issues, providing guidance on progressive discipline and preparing necessary documentation for HR and legal review. The role involves offering general advice to managers and supervisors on compliance with labor and employment laws, including wage and hour laws, sexual harassment prevention, and discrimination laws. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legal requirements is essential to minimize legal risks and ensure compliance in day-to-day employee management. The position also includes responding to inquiries from various internal and external sources, conducting stay and exit interviews, and facilitating training sessions for leaders and employees on conflict resolution and the grievance process. The Employee Relations Manager will partner with outside counsel and agencies as needed and will be responsible for creating and maintaining a complaint tracking system, as well as managing the administration of the employee ambassador program. Other responsibilities may be assigned as necessary to support the employee relations function effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in resolving employee relation issues and facilitate conflict resolution between employees and supervisors
  • Promptly investigate employee complaints, including but not limited to complaints regarding harassment, discrimination, and unfair treatment
  • Utilize independent judgment and best practices in conducting investigations and recommending resolutions for HR Director's approval; write investigation summaries and reports
  • Work with management on employee performance issues, support progressive discipline, guide supervisors, and prepare documentation for HR and legal review as required
  • Provide general guidance to managers and supervisors regarding labor and employment law compliance, wage/hour laws, sexual harassment, and discrimination prevention
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring compliance
  • Respond to written and verbal inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources
  • Conduct stay and exit interviews
  • Conduct training for leaders and employees in conflict resolution and grievance and investigation process
  • Partner with outside counsel and outside agencies when needed
  • Create and maintain complaint tracking system
  • Create and manage administration of employee ambassador program
  • Other responsibilities/accountabilities as needed relevant to employee relations

Requirements

  • Willingness to work on site (Must live within 60 miles)
  • Requires 5-7 years related experience in employee relations
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and regulations including Title VII, DOL, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, ERISA, COBRA, PPACA, Section 125 and unemployment and labor relations
  • HR Certification required (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, PHR, etc.)
  • Excellent negotiation and relational skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a consistent manner
  • Demonstrated ability and track record of managing complex and sensitive performance and employee relations issues
  • Ability to manage, counsel and resolve various and numerous issues/concerns on a daily basis
  • Ability to interpret policies and appropriate application, with awareness of impact and liability
  • Strong problem solving, ethical, and analytical skills
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups and working with all levels of an organization
  • Ability to be objective, discreet, organized and detail oriented
  • Demonstrated experience in working with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods
