About the position

The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for providing guidance and support to management, employees, and union representatives regarding workplace policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements. This role involves managing employee relations complaints, conducting investigations, and advising on disciplinary actions, ensuring effective communication and resolution of issues within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Assist management, employees, and Union representatives by providing guidance and interpretation on workplace policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
• Provide advisement and training to supervisors in discipline and discharge cases.
• Manage the grievance procedure outlined in the collective bargaining agreements, ordinances, and policies; and advise City Management on the same.
• Meet with Management/Labor to narrow contentious issues, research, and offer solutions.
• Receive employee relations complaints and reports, research and conduct necessary investigations, secure appropriate documentation, and make recommendations to resolve the complaints based on findings.
• Assist City management and employees with performance appraisal programs.
• Consult with departments on programs to improve the quality of effective supervisory practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration or closely related field.
• Six (6) years of progressively responsible human resources experience, including one (1) year of employee/labor relations.
• Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
