About the position

The Employment Specialist at Goodwill Industries of Lane and South Coast Counties & Alaska plays a crucial role in providing vocational opportunities to individuals facing barriers to employment. This position involves working collaboratively with a team to deliver employment-related education, support, guidance, and training to participants in Workforce Development programs, ultimately helping them secure and retain employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist participants with activities designed to prepare individuals for successful employment.
  • Provide employment counseling, application development, resume writing, cover letters, and interviewing skills.
  • Conduct employment-related workshops and mentoring sessions.
  • Complete orientation and enrollment activities with participants based on Goodwill and contractual requirements.
  • Provide referrals to community resources to help individuals overcome barriers to employment.
  • Identify program eligibility and enter information into the appropriate database according to contract requirements.
  • Collaborate with workforce team members to provide case management services, including tracking participation and progress.
  • Maintain documentation of program outcomes, including intakes, training, job placements, and employment status of participants.
  • Participate in required training in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Understand local employers' needs and match job seekers' skills to employment opportunities in the community.
  • Document job placements and employment status by performing follow-up calls to participants.

Requirements

  • Two years of related experience and training or equivalent.
  • Experience in rehabilitation, social work, human resources, business, or related fields.
  • Experience assisting individuals with self-sufficiency and vocational goals preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED; some college preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possession of a valid Oregon driver's license and insurable driving record.
  • Strong technical office skills, including proficiency in MS Office, Outlook, and database management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to write reports and maintain participant case notes.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the general public.
