About the position

The Employment Specialist (IPS) plays a crucial role in empowering adults with serious behavioral health diagnoses to achieve meaningful employment. This position involves assessing employment preferences, providing benefits counseling, and supporting job readiness through coaching and resource connections. The role requires significant community engagement, with a focus on delivering services in various community settings, including residences and shelters.

Responsibilities

  • Use the Individualized Placement and Support (IPS) model to identify consumers with vocational goals and assess their preferences and readiness.
  • Support consumers in finding and maintaining employment while providing benefits counseling.
  • Develop networks and relationships with local employers for job development.
  • Collaborate with consumers' support networks to promote progress in their vocational goals.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing and trauma-informed approaches in service delivery.
  • Provide at least 65% of services in the community, including client visits in residences and shelters.
  • Attend daily team meetings to discuss clients' clinical and case management issues.
  • Complete documentation required by the NYS Office of Mental Health and NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least 3 years of experience providing direct services to individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders in a community-based setting.
  • At least 2 years of experience providing Employment Services.
  • High degree of computer literacy, including competence with EHR.
  • Demonstrated expertise in recovery-oriented, evidence-based practice.
  • Experience with the IPS model is highly desired.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with diverse adults receiving mental health treatment, including those with functional impairments and psychosocial needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual Spanish is highly preferred.
