About the position

The Employment Specialist at Kanvwotiyi is responsible for networking with local employers to create job opportunities for clients in residential programs, particularly those dealing with substance abuse and psychiatric issues. This role involves providing individual and group employment services, ensuring access to quality employment resources, and contributing to programming for residential services. The specialist will lead classes, assess clients' vocational skills, and develop personalized job support plans to facilitate successful employment outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Network with local employers to develop relationships for client employment opportunities.
  • Provide individual and group employment services for clients with substance abuse and/or psychiatric symptoms.
  • Assist clients in choosing, acquiring, and maintaining competitive paid employment in the community.
  • Develop and maintain employment opportunities through enclaves or work units with local employers.
  • Provide information on the benefits of working and link clients to benefits specialists.
  • Assess clients' vocational skills and preferences on an ongoing basis.
  • Explore different jobs/careers with clients and assist them in meetings with potential employers.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop a Job Support Plan tailored to their needs.
  • Assist clients in learning about education and vocational training programs.
  • Provide education and support to employers regarding job accommodations.
  • Facilitate job development and job search activities individualized to clients' interests.
  • Spend 30% or more of work hours in the community to support clients.
  • Address barriers to employment such as criminal background and lack of work history.
  • Assist clients with exploring self-employment options.
  • Facilitate small groups and classes at residential support homes.
  • Document treatment and clinically significant events for medical records.
  • Attend clinical staffing as part of a treatment team.
  • Provide care coordination and case management functions for clients.
  • Engage clients in employment services through regular check-ups.
  • Participate in community planning and program implementation.
  • Obtain continuing education through training and workshops.
  • Develop and manage programming and class schedules with leadership.
  • Collect data and provide regular reports for management use.
  • Represent CIHA in community meetings and workgroups.
  • Monitor outcomes and adjust programming to maximize positive results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university.
  • Valid Driver's license.

  • Experience working with Peer Support services.
  • NC Certified Peer Support Specialists certification.
