About the position

The Employment Tax and Payroll Accounting Manager at Northrop Grumman is responsible for overseeing employment tax and payroll accounting transactions, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. This role involves managing a team to deliver accurate and timely payroll reporting, guiding staff on complex payroll tax issues, and collaborating with various departments to align payroll processes with organizational objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strategic thinking skills and deep expertise in employment tax laws and payroll systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and develop the employment tax and payroll accounting team.
  • Provide guidance on complex payroll tax and accounting issues to staff and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure departmental goals align with organizational objectives and compliance requirements.
  • Oversee compliance with all federal, state, and local employment tax regulations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of payroll tax returns, including Forms 941, 940, W-2s, and other required reports.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in tax laws and regulations, implementing necessary updates to systems and processes.
  • Manage relationships with external tax agencies and address inquiries or audits related to payroll taxes.
  • Oversee payroll-related journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure accuracy of payroll-related transactions, including wages, benefits, and tax liabilities.
  • Lead the payroll accounting aspects of month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Collaborate with HR, IT, and Finance teams to ensure payroll processes align with accounting standards and organizational needs.
  • Prepare for and support internal and external audits related to payroll and tax compliance.
  • Develop and present reports on payroll tax compliance and financial performance to senior management.
  • Identify trends and opportunities for process improvement through data analysis and reporting.
  • Manage payroll system configurations related to tax compliance and accounting.
  • Lead system implementations, upgrades, or integrations impacting payroll tax and accounting processes.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in payroll operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).
  • 10+ years of experience in payroll accounting and employment tax compliance, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local employment tax laws and regulations.
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to resolve complex payroll issues.
  • Solid software skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with payroll and accounting systems such as ADP, Workday, SAP(S4), or similar platforms.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $112,200.00 - $158,400.00.
