About the position

The EMS Communications Specialist plays a crucial role in the Ambulance Services department at Prisma Health. This position is responsible for receiving, scheduling, coordinating, and dispatching requests for medical transportation services. The specialist will also perform patient registration functions and may control the distribution of ambulance equipment and medications during shift changes. The role requires a high level of efficiency and proficiency in handling emergency calls and coordinating the delivery of services in a safe, courteous, and efficient manner. In this position, the specialist will verify the operational readiness of crews, ensuring that all necessary equipment and personnel are prepared for service. They will accept calls requesting medical transportation services and promptly dispatch units while tracking their movements. It is essential to obtain and document patient information accurately to ensure appropriate utilization of resources and reimbursement. The specialist will also be responsible for preparing written documentation in a complete, timely, and accurate manner, demonstrating skill proficiency on an annual basis. Additionally, attending staff meetings, complying with employee health requirements, and completing mandatory training programs are integral parts of the job.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Experience in emergency medical services or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle stressful situations effectively.
  • Proficiency in using communication and dispatching equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and emergency response protocols.
  • Previous experience in a dispatch or communications role.
