About the position
The Basic EMT position at Mercy Health involves providing care and transportation for emergency and non-emergency patients in a pre-hospital environment. The role requires adherence to the Ohio EMS scope of practice and includes operating an ambulance safely and efficiently. The Basic EMT will also maintain required certifications and participate in ongoing education to ensure high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Responds to calls and performs patient assessments.
- Provides basic airway management per Ohio EMS Scope of Practice.
- Administers CPR and uses AED as necessary.
- Participates in required/mandatory trainings.
- Provides proper care and safe, efficient transport of patients.
- Maintains proper reports and records.
- Cares for the vehicle and equipment used in patient transport.
- Maintains confidentiality and actively supports patient/family rights.
- Serves as a patient advocate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Practices Mercy Core Values.
- May serve as proctor/educator for students.
Requirements
- EMT Certification
- BLS Certification
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Driver's License
- Basic EMT Certificate
- State of Ohio Licensure/Certification
Nice-to-haves
- Vocational/Technical Degree
- IS 100 and IS 700 certifications
- 1-3 years of experience preferred
- Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) within 1 year of hire
