About the position
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at Carilion Clinic is responsible for providing basic life support and emergency treatment to patients in various situations. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment, often requiring quick decision-making and physical effort to assist patients. The EMT will interact with patients, families, and medical staff, ensuring effective communication and care delivery. Responsibilities
- Provides emergency treatment at the scene of an accident or medical emergency.
- Distinguishes between life-threatening and non-life-threatening emergencies.
- Records and communicates data to the designated medical command authority or responsible physician.
- Initiates non-invasive treatment as required by the patient and according to protocols.
- Assesses and reports the patient's response to treatment and initiates appropriate changes as required.
- Conducts daily checks of unit assignment, cleans, stocks, and reports malfunctions to in-house mechanic.
- Obtains necessary information for insurance billing and communicates with patients about requirements.
- Acts as attendant in charge and driver.
- Works with advanced life support personnel in setting up needed equipment.
- Performs basic life support treatment to interfacility and EMS patient types.
Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent required.
- One year experience with Emergency Medical Service preferred.
- Must be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Virginia.
- AHA BLS - HCP required.
- HAZMAT Awareness and PHTLS or BTLS Basic required within one year of hire date.
- Must maintain continuing education hours to meet re-certification status as required by State (National) standards.
