About the position

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) position at Marshall Medical Centers encompasses three levels of training: Basic EMT, Advanced EMT, and Paramedic. Each level is designed to prepare healthcare professionals to respond effectively to medical and trauma emergencies in pre-hospital settings. The EMT Basic is the foundational role, requiring skills in CPR, first aid, airway management, oxygen administration, spinal immobilization, bleeding control, and traction splinting. EMT Basics are also trained in the use of advanced airway adjuncts such as the pharyngeal-tracheal lumen (PTL) or CombiTube, and they are responsible for activating aeromedical assets when necessary. To qualify for this role, candidates must graduate from an ADPH-approved Basic Program and obtain licensure from the ADPH as a Basic EMT, along with a valid Alabama motor vehicle operator's license. Maintaining ADPH credentialing is also essential. The Advanced EMT role builds upon the Basic EMT training, allowing for more invasive procedures such as IV therapy, endotracheal intubation, and the use of cardiac monitors/ECGs. This position requires graduation from an ADPH-approved Advanced Program and licensure as an Advanced EMT by the ADPH, along with a valid Alabama motor vehicle operator's license and ongoing credentialing. The Paramedic is the most advanced level of EMT training, functioning under the authority and indirect supervision of a physician. Paramedics are trained to stabilize and transport patients in emergency situations, utilizing advanced medical techniques and protocols. Candidates must graduate from an ADPH-approved Paramedic Program and obtain licensure as a Paramedic from the ADPH, in addition to holding a valid Alabama motor vehicle operator's license and maintaining credentialing. Marshall Medical Centers is a 240-bed, two-hospital system located in North Alabama, employing nearly 1,300 staff across 27 specialties.
