About The Position

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at Hackensack Meridian Health is responsible for providing Basic Life Support (BLS) services in both emergency and non-emergency situations. This role involves the safe and prompt transportation of patients while ensuring high-quality care is delivered in a professional manner. EMTs must demonstrate critical thinking skills to assess, triage, and communicate effectively with patients and other healthcare providers, all while adhering to state regulations and organizational protocols.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Emergency Medical Technician Certification (New Jersey, New York, PA, MD, or National Registry).
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification or BLS Instructor Trainer.
  • Valid Driver's License from a USA state.
  • Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator within 90 days of entering position.
  • International Trauma Life Support Certification or equivalent within 6 months of entering position.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of BLS experience.
  • 911 experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to calls in a timely manner.
  • Assists and supports public safety personnel and other healthcare providers during patient care.
  • Assesses patients and provides pre-hospital basic life support treatment according to their condition.
  • Observes and reports changes in patients' conditions to other clinicians.
  • Attends to patient needs during transport, ensuring comfort in all weather conditions.
  • Identifies and modifies care based on the specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Obtains essential data from patients and their families for effective pre-hospital care.
  • Completes thorough physical examinations to inform appropriate interventions.
  • Records and reports pertinent medical information to the medical control physician.
  • Operates motor vehicles safely and professionally, complying with laws and HMH policies.
  • Performs daily vehicle and equipment checks, maintaining cleanliness and safety.
  • Documents patient care reports in a timely manner for each patient contact.
  • Maintains adequate supplies and equipment in vehicles and quarters.
  • Provides education within the scope of EMT training as directed by leadership.
  • Participates in required training and quality reviews to maintain clinical competency.
