About the position

Gunnison Valley Health Paramedics (GVHP) are seeking a PRN EMT to join our team and support our mission of serving the residents and visitors of Gunnison County. GVHP operates three 24/7 ambulances on a 48/96 schedule responding to over 1,600 calls annually. With a response area near 4,400 square miles of both urban and rural geography, our team of providers must be prepared to operate in austere environmental conditions, practicing medicine on extended and remote scenes. Our providers operate under progressive guidelines, delivering industry-leading treatment including pre-hospital blood product administration, mechanical ventilation with Hamilton T1 ventilators and POC lab testing. GVHP also lead and support rescue operations including technical rope rescue, swift water, wildland fire and TEMS.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with assigned ALS partner and department personnel to provide direct patient care and management of scene logistics.
  • Possess foundational knowledge of basic life support practices, urban and backcountry medicine, all hazards response and interfacility transfers.
  • Ensure prompt patient care documentation and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a class that meets or exceeds the requirements set forth by the USDOT for EMT.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Previous experience in EMS is preferred.
  • Ability to efficiently communicate verbally, via telephone and radio equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry and balance up to 125 pounds (250 with assistance).
  • Ability to interpret written, oral and diagnostic instructions.
  • Ability to use good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment with frequent auditory and visual interference.
  • Ability to function efficiently throughout an entire work shift.
  • Ability to calculate weight, volumes and ratios as well as read small print under threatening time constraints.
  • Ability to read and understand English language manuals and road maps; accurately discern street signs and address numbers.
  • Ability to interview patients, family members, and bystanders.
  • Ability to document all relevant information in prescribed format considering legal ramifications.
  • Good manual dexterity, with ability to perform all tasks related to the highest level of patient care.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and crawl on uneven terrain and rugged surfaces.
  • Ability to withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold, and moisture.
  • Ability to complete a physical capacity test.
  • Ability to work in low light, confined spaces and other dangerous environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Valid Colorado state driver's license free from restrictions and suspensions.
  • Valid Colorado state EMT certification required.
  • National Registry EMT certification required.
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support certification.
