About the position

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Transport position at Houston Methodist Hospital is responsible for providing advanced and basic life support care and transportation of patients. This role involves driving the ambulance, assisting in patient care, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and national standards of care. The EMT Transport works under the direction of the Medical Director and is committed to delivering patient-centered care in alignment with the hospital's values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate out-of-hospital advanced and basic life support care and transportation of patients.
  • Drive the ambulance to transport patients to/from emergency care centers.
  • Assist in the delivery of patient care and services to diverse patient populations and their families.
  • Communicate effectively with the interprofessional care team and report pertinent patient care information.
  • Administer prompt and efficient basic and advanced life support care within the limits of licensure or certification.
  • Maintain and accurately process patient records, ensuring all forms are properly identified and completed.
  • Contribute to the improvement of department scores for patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction.
  • Engage in performance improvement projects and shared governance activities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • One year experience as an EMT or currently enrolled in an EMT-I or Paramedic accredited program.
  • One year patient care experience preferred.
  • Licensed Paramedic or State Certification as EMT-B, EMT-I, EMT-A, or EMT-P.
  • Valid Driver License and Basic Life Support (AHA) certification.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification within 6 months.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA) certification preferred.
