About the position

The End-to-End (E2E) Underwriter at Maxwell plays a crucial role in streamlining the mortgage process by underwriting complex purchase and refinance transactions. This position requires a deep understanding of underwriting guidelines and regulations, as well as the ability to manage client relationships effectively. The Underwriter will ensure compliance with established standards while providing solutions to assist Loan Officers in closing loans efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure loans are underwritten in accordance with underwriting standards and guidelines established by the lender and agency guidelines.
  • Thoroughly review loan files to identify deficiencies and accurately condition them.
  • Meet client Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Analyze complex personal and business tax returns for high-net worth individuals.
  • Maintain knowledge of underwriting guidelines and mortgage compliance, staying current on GSE updates.
  • Provide solutions to Loan Officers for loan restructuring.
  • Communicate positively with processors and Loan Officers to expedite file closings.
  • Resolve post-closing audits with necessary parties.
  • Input data concisely and accurately.
  • Run AUS and vendor software for additional analysis.
  • Review and sign off on appraisals for complex property types and higher property values.
  • Clear conditions while meeting turn time objectives.
  • Maintain acceptable quality control metrics.
  • Train and mentor peers.
  • Support and work on multiple loans for one borrower.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of current underwriting experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years recent experience focused on high net worth/private wealth clientele.
  • Strong background in DSCR Loan Programs.
  • Extensive experience underwriting complex borrower profiles.
  • Construction to perm and HELOC experience preferred.
  • Condo review experience preferred.
  • Active NMLS license in NY desired.
  • MeridianLink experience desired.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong Appraisal and Condo review skills.
  • Government underwriting experience (FHA, VA, USDA).
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
