About the position

The Endoscopic Procedural Technician plays a crucial role in the Endoscopy Department, assisting registered nurses and endoscopists during gastrointestinal procedures. This position is responsible for ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective support and maintenance of endoscopic equipment, as well as providing care to patients across various age groups. The technician must be self-motivated, possess strong time management skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the direction of the Endoscopist Physician.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve endoscopy equipment problems before, during, and after procedures.
  • Clean and restock Endoscopy carts and maintain an orderly work area.
  • Transport pathology specimens to the laboratory.
  • Clean and reprocess endoscopes and reusable accessories, including quality testing and biological monitoring.
  • Set up and assist with various endoscopic procedures such as bronchoscopies, colonoscopies, and gastroscopies.
  • Maintain knowledge of emergency equipment used in endoscopic procedures.
  • Follow applicable policies and procedures, including safety protocols and proper PPE usage.
  • Participate in unit meetings and educational activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Endoscopy certification preferred.
  • Prior Endoscopy experience preferred.
  • Ability to assess situations and implement changes as needed.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity towards patients and their families.
  • Ability to orient new employees and assist with their education and training.

  • Experience in a healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of standard precautions and isolation procedures
