About the position

The Endoscopic Processing Specialist is responsible for the safe reprocessing of flexible endoscopes and equipment within the Endoscopy Department and Ancillary Departments. This part-time position requires a minimum number of worked hours per month and offers limited benefits. The specialist serves as an expert resource, ensuring equipment availability and compliance with hospital policies while mentoring new staff and maintaining quality control.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and coordinate the safe reprocessing of flexible endoscopes and equipment.
  • Serve as an expert resource for the department on equipment and reprocessing.
  • Troubleshoot equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Perform specialty tasks as delegated by the supervisor.
  • Maintain availability of equipment, supplies, and materials for maximum efficiency.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in response to changing unit situations.
  • Identify priorities and adjust workflow to meet unit demand.
  • Notify supervisor of potential issues that may impact patient care.
  • Report service issues and implement corrective action.
  • Assist manager in evaluating repair issues and cost containment.
  • Monitor and assure compliance with required documentation.
  • Monitor staff for adherence to hospital policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Precept and mentor new processing assistants.
  • Orient new employees to processing area and specialty equipment.
  • Recertify staff members on reprocessing.
  • Communicate effectively to resolve issues.
  • Provide input on performance evaluations of processing assistants.
  • Accurately complete variance reports.
  • Maintain processing records and quality control logs to comply with hospital/regulatory requirements.
  • Present educational activities as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5-7 years of related experience in endoscopy.
  • Working knowledge of endoscopy-related computer software and equipment.
  • Knowledge of advanced technical skills.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to integrate the analysis of data to discover facts or develop knowledge, concepts, or interpretations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.
