About the position

The Endoscopy Technician at SCA Health plays a crucial role in supporting endoscopic procedures by ensuring patient safety, maintaining sterile environments, and assisting medical staff. This position is integral to delivering high-quality patient care and involves a variety of responsibilities, including equipment management, patient advocacy, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
  • Function as an assistive person during endoscopy procedures.
  • Protect the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and various sources.
  • Demonstrate safe operation of equipment and machinery, reporting unsafe situations.
  • Act as the patient's advocate by speaking up with safety concerns.
  • Handle specimens according to facility policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to standard precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
  • Perform interventions to protect the patient from infection.
  • Protect the patient's rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
  • Comply with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy.
  • Assemble supplies and equipment required for the procedure.
  • Prepare and organize sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure.
  • Provide instruments and supplies to the endoscopist during the procedure.
  • Maintain an organized sterile field.
  • Evaluate the patient's progress toward attaining outcomes.
  • Provide accurate, concise, and pertinent hand-off reports to other teammates.
  • Maintain endoscopy instruments and accessories in working order.
  • Troubleshoot and recognize malfunctions of equipment.
  • Clean and prepare equipment and instruments for processing and transport them to decontamination areas.
  • Ensure scopes are prepared for use according to policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with team members and stakeholders.
  • Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning patient care.
  • Assist with post-procedure cleaning of the procedure room and preparation for subsequent patients.
  • Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
  • Participate in the performance appraisal process.
  • Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships.
  • Maintain required competencies and pursue professional growth.
  • Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of health information.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Prior Experience as a GI Tech preferred.
  • Successful completion of BCLS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BCLS certification.
