About the position

Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking an Energy & Grid Integration Mechanical Engineer to enhance its clean energy integration, power systems development, and modeling capabilities. This role involves driving the integration of various energy sources, including wind, hydropower, solar, and nuclear power systems. The successful candidate will work within a team that operates on a 9x80 schedule, allowing for every other Friday off, and will be based in the ESL facility. Remote or hybrid work opportunities may also be available for this position. As an Energy & Grid Integration Mechanical Engineer, you will establish a track record for proven performance in the integration of power systems and control technologies. This includes conducting resource assessments and performing analyses of renewable and classical power systems. You will support micro-grid to full-scale grid demonstrations and research and development initiatives. Coordination of model results with technical staff, group leads, and external collaborators will be a key part of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will prepare and contribute to design analyses, technical reports, publications, and presentations at national technical meetings and project reviews with program sponsors. Your role will also involve supporting the leadership of the INL Systems Engineering and Integration Department in meeting customer expectations and internal reporting metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a track record for proven performance of integration of power systems and control technologies through design of resource assessments, and perform renewable and classical power systems analyses.
  • Support micro-grid to full-scale grid demonstrations, research and development.
  • Coordinate model results to technical staff, group leads, and external collaborators.
  • Prepare and contribute to design analyses and developments, technical reports, publications, and presentations at national technical meetings and project reviews with program sponsors.
  • Support INL Systems Engineering and Integration Department leadership in meeting customer expectations and milestones, and internal reporting metrics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or directly related field from an ABET-accredited institution and 2 years of experience, or a Master's or PhD in mechanical engineering; Engineer in Training or related field from an ABET-accredited institution or directly related field and 0 years experience.
  • Relevant experience commensurate with level.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy 'L' clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
