About the position

The Energy Assistance Worker position at the Blair County Assistance Office is a seasonal role focused on assisting eligible residents of Pennsylvania in accessing benefits through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This full-time position typically runs for 6-8 months during the fall and winter seasons, providing a rewarding opportunity to help clients apply for heating assistance while working in a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process initial benefit applications and CRISIS applications for LIHEAP.
  • Interview clients to gather necessary information for applications.
  • Act as a liaison with heating vendors to facilitate assistance.
  • Review and complete applications to recommend approval or disapproval of benefits.
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of applications and client interactions.
  • Work under close supervision of an Income Maintenance Casework Supervisor to ensure compliance with program regulations.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in general office work that included interviewing the public.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with social services or community assistance programs.
  • Familiarity with LIHEAP or similar energy assistance programs.
