About the position

The Energy Assistance Worker position at the Blair County Assistance Office is a seasonal role focused on helping residents of Pennsylvania access benefits through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This full-time position typically runs for 6-8 months during the fall and winter seasons, providing essential support to clients in need of heating assistance. The role involves processing applications, interviewing clients, and liaising with heating vendors, all while working under the supervision of a Casework Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Process initial benefit applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
  • Handle CRISIS applications for LIHEAP.
  • Interview clients to gather necessary information for applications.
  • Act as a liaison with heating vendors to facilitate assistance.
  • Review and complete applications to recommend approval or disapproval of benefits.
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of applications and client interactions.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in general office work that included interviewing the public.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in social services or community assistance programs.
  • Familiarity with LIHEAP or similar energy assistance programs.
