About the position

The Department of Human Services is seeking a Seasonal Energy Assistance Worker to assist fellow Pennsylvanians in staying warm during the winter season. This position is essential as it involves guiding consumers through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). As an Energy Assistance Worker, you will be responsible for processing initial benefit applications as well as CRISIS applications for LIHEAP. This is a full-time, seasonal position that typically runs for 6-8 months during the fall and winter seasons, specifically designed to assist clients in applying for heating assistance. After receiving on-the-job training, you will conduct interviews with clients, act as a liaison with heating vendors, and review and complete applications to recommend approval or disapproval of benefits in accordance with Federal and State Regulations. The majority of your work will involve data entry, and you will perform your assignments under the close supervision of an Income Maintenance Casework Supervisor who will review your work for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to program regulations. You may also be assigned other related duties as necessary. The work schedule for this position is non-permanent and full-time, running from approximately October to April, with the possibility of starting as early as September and lasting until June. The working hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 60-minute lunch break. Please note that the work schedule is subject to change based on operational needs, and travel and overtime may be required as needed. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in general office work which included interviewing the public.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Must meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
