About the position

The Energy Assistance Worker position is a seasonal role within the Department of Human Services (DHS) aimed at providing support to Pennsylvania citizens during the winter months through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The role involves evaluating eligibility for LIHEAP benefits, responding to inquiries in a call center environment, and assisting applicants with access to social services. This position is crucial for connecting citizens to community resources and requires excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate information to confirm eligibility or ineligibility for LIHEAP benefits.
  • Respond to calls and emails concerning LIHEAP in a call center environment.
  • Interact objectively and sensitively with applicants in distress or stressful situations.
  • Assist callers with the Commonwealth of PA Access to Social Services (COMPASS) or mobile app.
  • Utilize various computer applications while interacting with clients and DHS personnel.
  • Connect citizens to other community resources that may assist them or supplement available LIHEAP benefits.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in general office work which included interviewing the public; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
