About the position

The Energy Economics Consultant will support the Energy Division of the IDB Group in enhancing energy-related operations through research, analysis, and policy recommendations. This role focuses on developing knowledge products and technical assistance programs aimed at improving energy services in Latin America and the Caribbean, addressing challenges posed by technological advancements and climate change.

Responsibilities

  • Support the knowledge and analytical agenda of the Energy Division.
  • Design, prepare, and deliver key research products, reports, and policy brief notes.
  • Conduct research and develop methodological notes.
  • Identify, compile, and organize databases.
  • Perform econometric and statistical analyses.
  • Design and implement surveys and economic experiments.
  • Analyze structured and unstructured data to derive insights and communicate findings.
  • Engage in computer programming.
  • Prepare literature reviews and draft documents.
  • Synthesize research into policy implications and best practices.
  • Coordinate calls for proposals for infrastructure and energy studies and prepare Terms of References.
  • Provide operational management assistance to research and data projects and supervise project implementation.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in economics, public policy, or a similar field; PhD is a strong plus.
  • Five years of relevant experience in energy/infrastructure economics research.
  • Experience with household surveys and/or firm-level data is essential.
  • Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese).
  • Strong background in econometrics, mathematics, and statistics.
  • Superb programming skills in Stata; knowledge of Python, R, and ArcGIS/QGis is a strong plus.
