About the position

Redwood Materials is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to join our team in Carson City, NV. Founded in 2017, Redwood Materials is dedicated to creating a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products. Our mission is to enhance sustainability and reduce costs in the battery supply chain by developing and deploying innovative technologies that increase the scope and scale of recycled materials. As a Senior Payroll Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our payroll processes, which are vital to our operations and employee satisfaction. In this position, you will be responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll using our payroll software, which includes calculating wages based on hours worked, managing reimbursements, bonuses, and holiday pay in compliance with federal and state wage and hour laws. You will also update employee profiles to accurately reflect deductions for medical, dental, and vision insurance plans, as well as 401k contributions. Additionally, you will upload data to our 401k provider on a bi-weekly basis and address any payroll-related inquiries from employees and management. Your role will also involve administering voucher invoices to ensure that vendors are paid within the agreed terms, as well as communicating with vendors and colleagues to resolve any invoice discrepancies. This position requires a high level of organization and the ability to manage a diverse workload in a fast-paced environment, making your attention to detail and confidentiality paramount to our success.

Responsibilities

  • Processing bi-weekly payroll using payroll software, including wages for hours worked, reimbursements, bonuses, and holiday pay.
  • Updating employee profiles in payroll software to reflect deductions for medical/dental/vision insurance and 401k.
  • Uploading data to the 401k provider on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Addressing payroll-related questions from employees and superiors.
  • Administering voucher invoices accurately and ensuring timely vendor payments.
  • Communicating with vendors and colleagues to resolve invoice issues.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience working on payroll accounts as a payroll specialist.
  • Deep understanding of hourly and non-exempt payroll complexities, including timecards, shift differentials, overtime, and leaves.
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation and regulations.
  • Experience with sales/use tax rules is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Proficient in MS Office and Workday.
  • Trustworthy with a strong attention to confidentiality.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with great attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • BA/BS in business, accounting, or a relevant field is mandatory (or equivalent years of experience).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with sales/use tax rules.
