About the position

KPNX/12News, the NBC affiliate in Phoenix, AZ, is seeking a full-time ENG Coordinator/Video Editor/Photographer. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of how news video exists on-air and in digital formats. This position requires close collaboration with executive producers, producers, and reporting staff in the newsroom. The successful candidate must be prepared to create high-quality content that meets strict deadlines while demonstrating excellent communication and organizational skills. The ability to work well under pressure and within a team environment is essential, as is the capacity to think creatively when it comes to editing. The role involves managing multiple live feeds from the field, routing them to in-house channels, and effectively communicating with the assignment desk, producers, and control room to ensure live shots are ready for broadcast. A dedication to quality control is crucial, as the candidate will need to monitor incoming video feeds and live shots, correcting any video or audio errors before they air. Additionally, the candidate should be capable of creating visually compelling graphics to enhance news stories and contribute with urgency and accuracy during breaking news situations. The position may also require contributions to live broadcasts on-air and via live streaming when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Creative story telling of the highest journalistic standards.
  • Editing a variety of video elements including voice-overs, SOTS, packages, graphics, and teases.
  • Ability to operate non-linear edit systems and experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (After Effects & Photoshop) is a plus.
  • Coordinate incoming video feeds to record.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and work well as a team player with news team and staff.
  • Ability to multi-task, handling editing assignments and capturing feeds and FTP material, while constantly monitoring quality control editing to scripts and producer notes.
  • Work closely with news producers, reporters, photojournalists, and the digital team to create the best morning/evening shows around.
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producers.
  • Ability to tune in Microwave, Dejero, TVU's, or satellites live shots.
  • Coordinate by sending station produced video to network and other TEGNA sister stations when asked.
  • Ability to operate different types of video and DSLR cameras to create compelling visuals, interview subjects, and produce/write their own stories with minimal assistance.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 3 years of experience as a non-linear editor - preferably in a local TV news department environment.
  • Experience with Edius and ENPS is a plus.
  • Ability to create/edit material for on-air broadcasts and web, while meeting deadlines.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
