About the position

The Engagement Producer for Early Childhood Education at SCPR is responsible for leading the organization's engaged journalism efforts focused on early childhood topics. This role aims to inform, connect, and empower communities of low- and middle-income parents and caregivers of children ages 0-5 through innovative engagement strategies. The producer will work closely with reporters and community members to enhance coverage and build relationships, utilizing various platforms and tools to engage the audience effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Propose and implement engagement projects to bring the voices of parents, caregivers, and early educators into the newsroom.
  • Test and evaluate engagement projects based on engagement team metrics, iterating accordingly and sharing lessons learned.
  • Build and strengthen relationships and collaborations with community organizations, key early childhood stakeholders, and community members.
  • Produce content including digital materials, printed materials, and live events such as listening sessions and community engagement events.
  • Regularly communicate with community members through newsletters and updates on various platforms.
  • Use engagement tools and software to connect with community members through callouts, web forms, and text messages.
  • Navigate and interpret social science research, government data, and other relevant data sources.
  • Maintain high standards of journalistic integrity, accuracy, and timeliness in reporting.
  • Pitch, report, and produce occasional news stories, writing and editing copy as required.
  • Stay updated on current events (local, national, and international).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Five or more years of journalism or relevant work experience.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and sensitivity in navigating complex social issues.
  • Experience in social media and content production.
  • Interest in social networking, content aggregation, and new trends in digital media.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and strong news judgment.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in multiple departments.
  • Strong interest in local and regional news and depth of knowledge about issues and current events.
  • Ability to work with changing deadlines and in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves
