About the position

The Engagement Specialist at Rutgers University is responsible for supporting the marketing and communications strategy of The Institute for the Study of Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing. This role involves developing and implementing strategic marketing plans, managing communications, and enhancing brand identity to engage various stakeholders effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic marketing and communications plan to strengthen awareness of the Institute.
  • Identify market research sources to target multiple audiences including business owners and professional associations.
  • Oversee the development and use of the Institute brand and strengthen brand identity.
  • Work with Institute leadership to identify marketing opportunities and execute strategies.
  • Manage the development and sharing of printed materials and electronic communications.
  • Review and prepare copy for public consumption to ensure quality and alignment with communications goals.
  • Design and edit reports, articles, toolkits, and other published items.
  • Manage communications-related freelancers/vendors as needed.
  • Develop and manage email and mail communications with key audiences.
  • Curate and develop social media tools or content as needed.
  • Maintain organization-wide communications calendar and prioritize work with the Director.
  • Create and maintain key internal collateral to support promotion of the Institute.
  • Support editing of materials such as funding proposals and donor communications.
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant staff and volunteers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • Five years of marketing and communications experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including writing, copy editing, and proofreading.
  • Strong marketing and market research skills, including experience with digital and social media campaigns.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic marketing and communications plans.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, CRM systems, and social media platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic design skills and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience working with an academic or research institution.
  • Familiarity with or interest in employee ownership.
