About the position

The Durst Organization is seeking an Engineer to ensure the safe and efficient operation of mechanical systems in a high-rise building environment. This role involves hands-on maintenance, repair, and diagnostics of various equipment, including chillers and boilers, while adhering to safety protocols. The Engineer will work closely with other staff to maintain the facilities and support residential unit needs.

Responsibilities

  • Start up, regulate, repair, and shut down equipment including Multistack chillers and Areco boilers.
  • Monitor equipment operation using meters, gauges, and computerized controls to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance tasks on MEP systems.
  • Use hand and power tools for repairs and maintenance, including overhauls and replacing defective parts.
  • Conduct diagnostics, repair, and operation of refrigeration supplemental cooling systems.
  • Review BMS for operational performance and critical alarms, providing feedback for corrections.
  • Record operational events and diagnose issues for corrective action.
  • Audit safety devices and troubleshoot problem areas.
  • Test and chemically treat hydronic systems to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits.
  • Support staff, Handyman, Porters, and subcontractors as needed.
  • Execute daily routine work orders and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Perform general maintenance and ensure cleanliness of facilities and equipment.
  • Build and repair cabinets, counters, closets, and other carpentry as needed.
  • Make minor electrical repairs including switches, receptacles, and light fixtures.
  • Plaster and paint as needed on small and large scales.
  • Conduct minor plumbing repairs including leaks and appliance repairs.
  • Repair entrance and internal doors, locks, hinges, and create keys.
  • Perform snow removal and perimeter maintenance as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years as an operating engineer in a high-rise building or campus site.
  • Fire Safety Director Certification.
  • Sprinkler/Standpipe Certification.
  • Air Compressor Certification.
  • BMS and control experience.
  • EPA Universal Certification.
  • Experience with HW boilers, Multistack chillers, Electrical, Plumbing, and Sprinkler Standpipe Systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years basic electrical experience including minor troubleshooting and wiring.
  • Minimum of 3 years plumbing experience including bathroom repair and soldering.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders and lift up to 75 lbs regularly.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and with exposure to elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, or chemicals.
