About the position

The Engineer 2 - Analytics Engineering role at Nordstrom is focused on enhancing the company's data infrastructure and self-serve analytics platform. This position involves collaborating with various teams to develop automated workflows, enforce data governance standards, and drive feature development that empowers analysts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, scripting, and cloud services, and will play a key role in delivering impactful data solutions across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and evolution of data infrastructure and self-serve analytics platform.
  • Build testing tools and CI/CD pipelines to reduce automation issues and speed up business outcomes.
  • Create and enforce data governance standards while promoting analytical projects.
  • Influence coding standards and optimal design practices within the DSA organization.
  • Identify performance issues and optimizations across architecture design and code.
  • Partner with analyst stakeholders to deliver effective self-service solutions.
  • Provide automation and technical scaffolding for analyst teams.
  • Act as tech sponsors for non-technical stakeholders to realize data engineering pipelines.
  • Perform design and code reviews as a trusted partner to platform teams and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data analysts, data scientists, and other tech teams.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or closely related degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in scripting for automation, preferably Python in a data engineering context.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience writing complex, production-quality SQL (BQSQL, TeradataSQL, SparkSQL).
  • Working knowledge of AWS services (EMR, EKS, S3, Lambda).
  • Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform services (BigQuery, DataPlex, DataProc, GCS).
  • Strong familiarity with orchestration and processing platforms (Airflow preferred).
  • Fluency with BI software and data visualization concepts.
  • Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, and IaC Tooling/Workflows (Bash/Shell, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI, Vault).
  • Knowledge of scalable distributed systems and event-driven streaming architecture.
  • Passion for new technologies, operational excellence, and customer impact.
