About the position

The Engineer 2, Test & Turn Up position at Comcast Corporation is responsible for the testing and turn-up of new Metro Ethernet fiber circuits in a commercial services environment. This role involves deploying network configurations, troubleshooting complex connection issues, and providing support to various stakeholders including government agencies and field service technicians. The engineer will work within a specialized team to resolve first-contact issues and escalations for Comcast Business's largest customers, ensuring timely and organized service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all service and equipment types.
  • Validate and implement network configurations for new Metro Ethernet service.
  • Review and quickly understand customer needs and expectations during customer calls.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues as needed during installs.
  • Test and turn-up new circuits in a production commercial services environment, in accordance with all Comcast practices.
  • Effectively utilize telnet/SSH, ticketing systems, and CLI.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of physical equipment such as switches, routers, or transport equipment.
  • Successfully conduct change orders including bandwidth upgrades and downgrades, disconnects, and COS changes.
  • Escalate issues with relevant notes and research, in a timely manner.
  • Open and update service tickets in database/tracking systems, employing strong follow up/through skills.
  • Exercise independent judgment, discretion, and sound communication practices in matters of significance.
  • Maintain regular, consistent, and punctual attendance, with the ability to work nights, weekends, and overtime as necessary.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in service and equipment types related to Metro Ethernet.
  • Ability to validate and implement network configurations.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for network issues during installations.
  • Experience with telnet/SSH, ticketing systems, and CLI.
  • Knowledge of physical equipment such as switches and routers.
  • Ability to conduct change orders and manage service tickets effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, especially in high-pressure situations.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Advanced knowledge of networking concepts and the OSI model.
  • Experience with systems like Orion, Century, CCOM, and TTS Remedy.
  • Certifications such as CE-A, CE-P, MEF, CCENT, CCNA, or JNCIA preferred.
