About the position
The Engineer 6 - DCL position serves as a statewide consultant for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), focusing on the design and approval of repairs for movable bridges, tunnels, and pump stations. The role involves assessing complex structural problems, collaborating with researchers and vendors on innovative technologies, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards. The incumbent will also manage significant budgets for repair projects and provide expert guidance on maintenance and construction-related issues.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop plans, specifications, and construction estimates for complex systems of statewide movable bridge, tunnel, and pump station repair projects.
- Review and approve equipment submittals and shop drawings related to designed work.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including field inspections and responding to contractor inquiries.
- Perform final field inspections of new or rehabilitated movable bridges, tunnels, and pump stations to ensure compliance with contract documents.
- Assist in the development of mechanical and electrical consultant contracts and review construction documents prepared by private consultants.
- Design systems for building facility projects, including lighting, power, and HVAC systems.
- Assist with emergency inspections and repairs of movable bridge structures damaged by catastrophic events.
- Maintain the Department's design and construction standards related to systems for movable bridges.
Requirements
- Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
- Two years of licensed engineering experience, or six years of professional engineering experience, including four years in electrical or mechanical engineering.
- Experience in design or maintenance of electrical or mechanical systems such as pumping systems, gear systems, and control systems.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's degree in engineering (substitutes for one year of experience).
- Ph.D. in engineering (substitutes for two years of experience).
- Experience with AASHTO Movable Highway Bridge Design Specifications.
