About the position

The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer position at Kennametal is a critical role focused on ensuring the successful implementation of products into manufacturing processes. This position is essential for monitoring and improving safety, quality, delivery, and cost metrics associated with product implementation. The engineer will work closely with global manufacturing resources and processes to align them with strategic product and source location requirements. The role encompasses various types of projects, including New Product Launches, Product Moves, Product Reactivations, and Strategic Project Initiatives, particularly in the metal cutting industry, utilizing Kennametal's stage gate process. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for the development and improvement of Manufacturing Readiness processes. They will facilitate multiple priority Manufacturing Readiness projects and serve as the key interface for manufacturing inquiries related to product, process, capability, capacity, and costing associated with these projects. The engineer will also support tools necessary for ensuring production readiness, such as Production Part Approval Processes (PPAPs), Production Releases, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEAs), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEAs), cost analysis, and capital investments. A proactive approach is essential, as the engineer will need to identify manufacturing readiness risks and implement actions to mitigate them effectively. Additionally, tracking and communicating key project metrics, milestones, and business objectives to team members and stakeholders will be a significant part of the role, ensuring that all parties are aligned and informed throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Development and improvement of Manufacturing Readiness processes
  • Facilitation of multiple priority Manufacturing Readiness projects
  • Be the key interface for manufacturing questions involving product, process, capability, capacity, and costing associated with Readiness projects
  • Support tools to ensure production readiness, including: PPAP's, Production Releases, DFMEA's, PFMEA's, cost analysis, and capital investments
  • Proactively identify manufacturing readiness risks and implement actions to mitigate them
  • Track and communicate key project metrics, milestones, and business objectives to team members and stakeholders

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Material Science, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a related role
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead global cross-functional project teams
  • Experience managing projects through the complete project lifecycle: Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring, Closing
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
