About the position

Conductix-Wampfler is seeking an Engineer, Application II - Controls and Automation to join their growing international team. This position is integral to the Controls and Automation Product Platform and Engineering team, providing a unique opportunity to engage in the product sales design process from concept to field application. In this role, you will assist with various day-to-day activities, including preparing detailed drawings and schematics using SolidWorks, EPLAN, and AutoCAD/DraftSight. You will collaborate with engineering support teams to address application challenges and find solutions that meet customer requirements. Additionally, you will process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and conduct design review meetings with sales, manufacturing, and quality assurance personnel for special engineered applications. Your responsibilities will also include initiating and writing Test Requests, analyzing results, and providing engineering support to the manufacturing shop floor as needed. On-site inspections and support for commissioning activities will also be part of your duties. The Application Engineering role is expected to provide guidance and direction to the Sales team and internal Engineering team members regarding product design to meet customer needs. You will be directly involved in product design for customized solutions, including design proposals for quotations, solution verification, and drafting proposals. This position requires strong communication skills to effectively document conversations with Sales and Customers concerning applications and technical requirements, as well as a sound understanding of industrial networking, mobile electrification, and industrial control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares component, product, and/or layout and detailed drawings and schematics using SolidWorks, EPLAN, and AutoCAD/DraftSight.
  • Reviews application challenges with Engineering support teams and works to find solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Processes Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for the product line(s).
  • Conducts design review meetings with sales, manufacturing, and quality assurance personnel for special engineered applications.
  • Initiates and writes Test Requests, analyzes results, and takes appropriate action, occasionally performing tests.
  • Provides engineering support to the manufacturing shop floor as required.
  • Performs on-site inspections and supports commissioning activities.
  • Communicates directly with Customers and Sales staff to guide their decision-making process and find solutions to meet their requirements.
  • Reviews Industrial Networking and Automation system designs to specify products that provide control, energy, and data transmission solutions.
  • Helps external and internal customers with PLC related questions and projects.
  • Locates design and application files related to the required design(s) and makes design modifications as appropriate.
  • Corrects any errors/omissions that occur in an expeditious manner and looks for ways to reduce/eliminate reoccurring errors.
  • Supports corrective action investigation, analysis, and permanent corrective action implementation.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (A.S.) in Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, or Engineering Technology and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with PLC programming is required, preferably Allen Bradley or Siemens.
  • Sound understanding of industrial networking, mobile electrification, and industrial control systems is required.
  • Experience with EPLAN, SolidEdge, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar electrical design software. SolidWorks or AutoCAD experience are desirable.
  • Ability to communicate and effectively document conversations with Sales and/or Customers concerning applications and technical requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Office365 applications is a must.
  • Working knowledge of SAP would be beneficial.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD 2018 or newer, SolidWorks, and EPLAN are desirable.
