About the position

The Engineer-Architect Specialist - Planning and Design at Denver International Airport (DEN) is a specialized technical role focused on providing architectural and engineering expertise for facility improvement and development projects. This position involves collaboration with various divisions to ensure that design initiatives align with DEN's strategic vision and standards. The role requires a commitment to excellence, problem-solving, and continuous improvement, overseeing design initiatives and fostering relationships with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with all DEN divisions to provide insight and expertise in proposed facility improvement and development projects.
  • Review designs and weigh in on architectural and engineering systems coordination, constructability, and schedule feasibility.
  • Provide oversight to internal and external teams of Architects, Planners, and Project Managers for various project types.
  • Represent the division/department in meetings with key stakeholders, elected and appointed officials, and other city entities.
  • Foster collaborative relationships to benefit the organization.
  • Communicate business and work area plans and goals to managers and supervisors to secure buy-in.
  • Review, approve, and implement recommended changes to plans and lead the development of process and operational improvements.
  • Champion continuous improvement, including devising new strategies and opportunities.
  • Set performance standards for the division and ensure operations achieve or exceed performance metrics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture.
  • Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of a Senior Engineer or Senior Architect.
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect by the Colorado State Board of Registration at the time of application.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous supervisor/leadership experience.
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of progressive experience with Program and Project Management of Facility projects.
  • Experience with Architectural Quality Management practices at all design and construction phases.
  • Technical project coordination amongst architectural and engineering disciplines for facilities projects.
  • Aviation design and construction experience at a major international airport.
  • Experience with innovative program and project delivery methods such as progressive design-build, CM/GC, and other alternative delivery methods.
