The Automation Engineer at LyondellBasell is tasked with providing primary optimization support to enhance the productivity, quality, efficiency, and reliability of the Process Control Systems that govern the operating unit. This role involves collaboration across multi-disciplined teams and managing complex and highly technical Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Advanced Process Control (APC) systems. The engineer will drive continuous improvement initiatives within an industrial process environment, ensuring that systems operate at peak performance. Key responsibilities include managing the lifecycle of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and other third-party systems to guarantee system reliability. The engineer will develop Preventive Maintenance (PM) plans along with associated maintenance procedures, guidelines, or work instructions. Additionally, they will support the development of obsolescence and long-range plans, which involve identifying problematic equipment and creating mitigation strategies, including Asset Management System (AMS) initiatives and governor systems. The Automation Engineer will also be responsible for forecasting spending plans within the annual maintenance budget and supporting capital project organizations in scope development, detailed design participation, and conducting factory and site acceptance tests. They will enforce the application of corporate, industry, and company standards and procedures while providing technical support to crafts, operations, and engineering teams regarding technical requirements and issues related to PLC, SIS, and other systems. Furthermore, the engineer will support the Management of Change (MOC) process and participate as a critical team member in process control migrations, upgrades, and Turnaround (TAR) projects, as well as support cybersecurity implementation and maintenance initiatives.
