About the position

The Engineer C (Mechanical/Electrical) position is responsible for providing technical expertise and regulatory guidance on design standards and requirements for mechanical, electrical, and building systems. This role involves consulting with architecture and engineering firms, reviewing designs, and ensuring compliance with AUS Design Standards and building codes. The engineer will manage complex engineering projects, conduct field inspections, and provide oversight throughout the planning, design, and construction phases of various infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Specify or advise on regulatory technical requirements and design standards for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Consult with A/E firms on preliminary and final designs to ensure compliance with AUS Design Standards.
  • Review construction progress reports, shop drawings, and material lists.
  • Coordinate and perform tasks related to the programming phase of projects, identifying user needs and requirements.
  • Approve, process, and seal plans and specifications by applying engineering standardization practices.
  • Manage technically complex engineering projects, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements.
  • Develop cost estimates and prepare engineering and feasibility reports for projects.
  • Conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Lead design teams in preparing long-range plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to public and City Council.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Eight years of engineering experience, with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Texas or the ability to obtain one within six months of employment.
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in managing complex engineering projects and conducting field inspections.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in design and construction at airport or large campus facilities.
  • Experience in regulatory review in accordance with building/electrical code.
  • Experience related to design of mechanical, electrical, and/or building systems.
