About the position

The Chemical Engineer position at General Atomics involves the development of mass manufacturing processes for inertial fusion energy targets and power plant blankets. The role requires supporting engineering staff in analyzing and resolving engineering problems, conducting testing, and documenting findings. The engineer will work under general supervision, applying technical knowledge to ensure safety and compliance while contributing to innovative projects in a high-technology environment.

Responsibilities

  • Applies technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve assigned engineering problems.
  • Performs functional testing and troubleshooting of equipment and systems in assigned area by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
  • Obtains and analyzes test data.
  • Develops appropriate documentation of findings and implemented solutions.
  • May provide direction to design and/or technical staff.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in chemical/materials engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelor's degree, or equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • General understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as required.
  • An EIT (Engineer in Training) certificate is desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
