About the position

Ulteig is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to join their bridge team, responsible for applying engineering principles to deliver successful projects. The role emphasizes client satisfaction, work-life balance, and team development, with opportunities for oversight and technical support to less experienced engineers. The position involves performing bridge inspections, structural analysis, and business development, with the flexibility to work from any Ulteig office or remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Apply current engineering techniques and procedures to complete tasks and support civil design workflows.
  • Develop plans, specifications, and observation reports in accordance with municipality requirements.
  • Recommend alterations to improve quality in development criteria and design features.
  • Guide engineering technicians and design engineers closely.
  • Plan and accomplish project goals using experience and judgment.
  • Resolve design problems through field investigations and observations.
  • Check design computations performed by the internal civil design team.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence regarding assigned projects.
  • Review plans and specifications for constructability, safety, and risk management.
  • Maintain accurate field notes and record drawings.
  • Work on projects associated with multiple State DOTs.
  • Collaborate with project managers, senior engineers, and team members for successful project delivery.
  • Understand client needs and identify feasible solutions.
  • Support marketing, sales, and business development activities.
  • Participate in team development and recruiting activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • PE license required.
  • Minimum of 5 years engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience with infrastructure projects highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with AAHSTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation.
  • Experience with bridge/structural design software such as OpenBridge Designer, LEAP Bridge, or RISA-3D/STAAD preferred.
  • Experience in bridge load ratings and AASHTOWare Bridge rating BrR.
  • Ability to maintain positive client relationships.
  • Independently complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Actively manage individual workload.
  • Assist in training and mentoring team members.
  • NHI coursework certification preferred.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Superior interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with National Highway Institute (NHI) coursework (Fracture Critical, Underwater Bridge Inspection, etc.) certification.
